Dignity for the Dead: ACF’s Free AC Hearse Van Service for the Poor
Allengers Care Foundation deployed two air-conditioned hearse vans at Government Medical College & Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh, to provide free transportation of deceased persons from government hospitals to their residences, including locations in neighboring districts. This initiative primarily supports economically disadvantaged families who are unable to afford private ambulance or hearse services.
The service is available within a 100-kilometer radius of Chandigarh, ensuring that the deceased are transported with dignity and respect during difficult times. The initiative was launched in response to instances where families faced severe hardships in arranging transportation for their loved ones after death.
Allengers Care Foundation bears the complete operational cost of the service, including the driver, fuel, maintenance, and other associated expenses, ensuring that bereaved families receive timely and compassionate support when they need it most.
Providing dignity in times of loss is one of the most compassionate services a community can offer. Since 2019, our Free Mortuary Van Service at Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, has ensured that vulnerable families receive timely and respectful support during their most difficult moments.
Program Highlights (Stats):
- From 2019, No. of 3624 families supported with dignified mortuary transport
- Every year approximately 600–650 deceased individuals are supported by our vans for free transportation services
- Proud of this cause, as many families reported a reduction in financial burden during their crises. It is focused on supporting economically vulnerable families.
Through this initiative, we are not just providing transportation—we are delivering compassion, dignity and unwavering support when it is needed the most.
